Softball versus kickball - what to do?

May 28, 11:34 am by jgottshall

It's bad enough we have to deal with the Folklife Festival, but the past few years we've also had to compete with kickball players when looking for a field. What's a team to do?

it's not just kickball.

it's not just kickball. Other softball teams, soccer, even rugby have come in between games on the mall, and try to squeeze into the outfield. All you can do is say you were there first, that they'll get in your way, and that they're in range of fly balls, which may hurt someone.

Then there are interns who are sent out at 4:00 with the instructions of "get a field as close to the Capitol as you can." They don't know any better when they find a unclaimed corner which just so happens to be someone's right field.

Overlapping fields

We've already played one game where outfielders for one game were standing in the infield of the adjacent game and vice versa. It's a dangerous situation. Kickballers shouldn't take Mall fields on Thursday nights - they don't need as much room to play and should find other areas - maybe the space between the Mall and Jefferson and Madison. What difference does it make if their ball hits a tree?

Softball obviously.

Have you ever watched a kickball game? They're so hilarious. I mean, I think my 2nd grade team could win the WAKA championship.
