The Congressional Softball League, a casual co-ed league promoting camaraderie and sportsmanship, celebrates its 38th year of organization. Registration fees cover the league Web site, some tournament expenses, admission into the Amateur Softball Association, liability insurance for sponsors and teams, and medical injury insurance for players. All teams may play in the end-of-season tournament regardless of record. It opens with a “group play” round that guarantees all teams at least two games, with leaders advancing to a double-elimination tournament.
The U.S. House Softball League is a volunteer-run league of more than 100 teams comprised primarily of current and former House staffers, federal employees and others who work or live in the Capitol Hill community. The USHSL promotes camaraderie, sportsmanship and the occasional flash of athletic ability in its goal to provide players with a fun, nonpartisan outlet to socialize outside the halls of Congress.
The U.S. Senate Softball League is the only Capitol Hill league that divides its teams into divisions. The Senate league has more structured game scheduling procedures than the others, but is also focused on camaraderie and sportsmanship. The Senate champs face the House league winner in the King of the Hill game at the end of the season.
