Rival:
For the last 2 years (2008, 2009), it would have to be the No Talent AZ Clowns, hands down. Basically any team that we take a loss to or who plays in the Common Ground Classic or the year-end Congressional Softball League tournament will become a rival. AZ Clowns had beaten us the most. Also included in the last 2 years would have to be the Yellow Journalists, Raising Arizona, Fallen Angels, Showboats & any squad ranked higher than us in the regular season or who made the final four of the previous CSL year-end tournament.
What's in a Name?:
The team was started by a Customs & Border Protection employee 3 years ago and was named the CBP Border Liners. To begin the 2008 season, new team coach & captain, Rob took the team over & overhauled the CBP Border Liners roster while keeping the name intact. Between the 2008 & start of the 2009 season, many new faces were added to the roster from within CBP and from other government agencies, contractors, military and through word of mouth and by picking up players from various other leagues we played in. Since the majority of the squad no longer worked for CBP, the team name was voted on and changed to Rob's Beltway Ballers. Our team prefers to play structured softball and we play from March through November in various co-ed & men's leagues throughout Virginia and DC.
Notable Moments:
Winning the 2009 Congressional Softball League & having to beat the two-time defending champs two times in the same tournament to do it. They are a tournament-tested squad with experience. We LOVE playing against the No Talent AZ Clowns. They are by far the best team we've come up against. Also, taking 3rd place in the Common Ground Classic in 2008 & beating a House League team by 20 runs who thought they'd walk right through us. In the 2009 Classic’s opening game, we were pitted against the same team who lost to us in 2008 & who LOVES to talk a good game. We were 1 out away from beating them by double digits AGAIN before rain forced a cancellation of the tourney. We love playing in the Congressional League and having teams from the House and Senate Leagues bad mouth anyone not in their leagues & then getting the chance to play them utilizing ASA softball rules. We also take pride in being "the most disliked team in the Congressional league due to our overly serious and gung-ho approach to every game."
